QRA Honours For Natives Club Members

The Queensland Rifle Association (QRA) has recognised two Natives Rifle Club members for their service to the QRA and target rifle shooting.

Native’s Captain and Life Member, John Menzel, and Club stalwarts, Rob Bell and Tony Inwood, were presented with the QRA Distinguished Service Medal at the QRA AGM on Saturday.

John Menzel pictured above left has been a familiar face at Belmont for more years than he’d care to admit! He practically grew up on the range to the point where it’s home and it’s family. John is one of the QRA, MDRA and Natives Rifle Club stalwarts who’s been there at almost every turn of the page. He’s part of the strength that makes our sport great and the Natives Rifle Club is stronger for having him as our Captain!

He was one of the original HEXTA electronic target team members at Belmont making his knowledge invaluable. He looks to the future and backs it up from grassroots. In many ways, he is the “past, present and future” wrapped up nicely. And yes, he still fires his share of shots downrange!

Congratulations Captain John! Well deserved.

Rob Bell, pictured above centre is another invaluable member of the HEXTA Electronic target team at Belmont. He’s there at crack of dawn, he’s there on range doing what needs to be done, he’s there well after close of play for competitors and he’s on the pulse of what’s happening during his SPARE moments. He does it all with a spring in his step and a smile a mile wide. He’s the first to ‘jump’ when things need to be done. Along with the team, Rob makes our world run smoothly! He’s a great clubmate and like most, lives for our sport and its community and, thankfully, he still manages to compete with our Club.

Our sport, our community and our Club are so much richer for having Rob involved!  Congratulations Rob on this well-deserved recognition.

Tony Inwood, pictured above right is the long-serving and seemingly ever-present senior butts officer who looks after the HEXTA electronic targets that we gleefully punch holes in at every opportunity.

Tony is always there to see that the targets are set up and working at the beginning of each shoot and he is there to put them to bed at the end of the day and all this with a cheery smile and good-natured banter.

Thank you, Tony, and congratulations on your well-deserved recognition.
